Hello everyone, and welcome to DeviantArt's very first Pokemon of the Week! This project is a partnership between myself and . Every Saturday we'll be featuring a new pokemon, drawn by me, and a detailed writeup of the pokemon by Sirus!
So without further ado, here's Latias!
Latias: The Eon Pokémon
Generation Debut Pokedex: Latias is highly sensitive to the emotions of people. If it senses any hostility, this Pokémon ruffles the feathers all over its body and cries shrilly to intimidate the foe. Latias is highly intelligent and capable of understanding human speech. It is covered with a glass-like down. The Pokémon enfolds its body with its down and refracts light to alter its appearance.
Pros and Cons: Latias is a pretty darn good Pokémon. Excellent speed, superior special defense, and an wonderful special attack stat followed by decent HP, attack, and defense makes Latias a tough competitor in the Uber league. Plus it’s ability negates one of the most popular physical attacks, making it’s lifespan even longer. It’s speed lets it sweep perfectly, and a good Draco Meteor is enough to crumble all but the toughest of Special Walls. If you see this Pokémon in an opposing team’s lineup, you better have a strategy!
Abilities: Levitate: Get’s rid of Earthquake, subtracting from Latias’ low defense problem due to how common Earthquake is.
Sets: ############# Straight Special Sweep EVs: 252 Special Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP Nature: Modest Item: Soul Dew
Draco Meteor Psychic/Hidden Power [Fire]/Surf Ice Beam Thunderbolt
This set is meant to hit fast and hard, and then switch either due to DM’s stat drop or when a resistant Pokémon is switched in. This set is great for leads, since it can wreck just about anything that starts out and then change with another, more suitable teammate after the foe falls. Draco Meteor will decimate anything with it’s STAB boost. Psychic gets STAB as well to take down pesky Poison types in case you don’t want to switch. Hidden Power [Fire] scorches Steels that plan to wall you, and Surf will take out just about everything else. The BoltBeam combo is as legendary as Latias, due to it’s immense type coverage, and both attacks will take down just about everything else that pops up.
Possible Other Moves: Not much else is needed, but I’ll still list a couple things. Shadow Ball Is to wreck Ghosts and Psychics... but why would you need to with Draco Meteor? Energy Ball: For those pesky rock types, but since Rock is almost always coupled with ground, Ice Beam will kill almost everything in it’s place.
############# Calm Mind Wall Sweep Combo EVs: Special Attack 140, HP 252, Special Defense 112 Nature: Modest Item: Soul Dew
Calm Mind Psychic Ice Beam/Thunderbolt/Recover/Refresh Ice Beam/Thunderbolt/Recover/Refresh
Sacrificing the near instakill move Draco Meteor, this set helps to ensure that Latias can actually deal damage while taking it at the same time. Calm Mind is obvious; It boosts your Special Attack and Special Defense stats. Psychic gets stab bonus and hits just about everything hard. Ice Beam and Thunderbolt can be either chosen separately alongside Recover for healing, or you can forsake healing and just go for the Boltbeam combo. Refresh is also an option, but it will sacrifice another attacking move, so choose carefully.
Possible Other Moves: Same as the Straight Special Sweep set. Again, they pale in comparison to the other moves.
############# Special Wall EVs: 252 Special Defense, 252 HP, 4 Special Attack Nature: Calm Items: Soul Dew
Light Screen Toxic Recovery Draco Meteor/Psychic/ Hidden Power [Fire]
It isn’t Blissey, but it can do a pretty good job mimicking it. Light screen halves all special damage, Toxic will slowly kill your opponent, Recovery is amazing, and finally the attack move is up to your preference. Draco Meteor is for those Physical hitters you’re afraid of, Psychic is just an all-around great move to use when stalling, and Hidden Power [Fire] counters the steel type’s immunity to poison. Again, it’s all up to what you prefer.
##############
Weakness: Steels are the natural born enemies of Psychic types that don’t use Hidden Power [Fire]. Usually the Dragon type will counter this.... Well, Latias doesn’t learn Flamethrower through any means. In other words, Steels can wall better than Latias due to their immunity to Toxic. Ferrothorn will make Latias’s day miserable, and Bisharp gets wicked powerful super effective hits on Latias’ weak defense stat, and even Steelix can get a few hits on her. Due to how difficult it is to get a non-hacked Modest/Calm Latias with a Fire type Hidden Power, it will be rare for a Latias to be able to hit Steels hard. If you decide to go into the Uber Tier, bring a Steel type with you to help hinder Latias, or she may very well take your team down.

With Latias, i cant say much. I am a strict anti legendary trainer and i actually make teams dedicated to BEATING legendaries. But Latias is a game breaker. I cannot tell you how many times she has made my life miserable in singles. She just will kill anything with her lead special sweep set before you even have the chance to set up. Even my defensive Swampert gets cooked every time she shows up. If you see a Latias, pick your pokemon wisely, because if i fear her, you should too.
Next weeks pokemon has already been chosen, but feel free to leave a comment and suggest one you'd like to see for PotW.

The move sets are also good!
